VA28 is located at Big
Meadows in Shenandoah National Park.The site is sponsored by the
Air Resources Division of the National Park Service and operated
by Shenandoah National Park. The Park lies within the Blue Ridge
|
Mountains
with spectacular views to the east and west from both the
Skyline Drive, which winds for 105 miles along the crest of the
mountains, and from over 500 miles of hiking trails, including
101 miles of the Appalachian Trail.
National Trends Network(NTN) sampling at VA28 began on May 12, 1981. The collocated
Mercury Deposition Network (MDN) site began sample collection on
October 22, 2002. Gordon Olson is the site supervisor and Liz
Garcia operates the site. In addition to the National
Atmospheric Deposition Program, Shenandoah also conducts
sampling for the Clean Air Status and Trends Network and the
Interagency Monitoring of Protected Visual Environments, as well
as measuring SO2, fine particle mass, and meteorological data.
