New Preliminary Report Format – The 2/22/06 Preliminary Report has the following format changes: 1) deposition calculations have been removed; 2) ammonia (NH4) values are now reported to three decimals; and 3) all analytical values, even those below the laboratory MDL are now reported. This change was implemented to simplify the preliminary data reporting process as MDLs change. Current laboratory MDLs are now reported in the footnote.

New CAL MDLs - The CAL computes laboratory method detection limits (MDLs) quarterly using low concentration internal quality control (QC) solutions. The QC solutions approximate the 10th percentile values observed for all NTN sites. These solutions are sent through the laboratory as internal blind samples every 2 weeks. These samples provide a better picture of overall laboratory performance than a once or twice a year evaluation of MDLs that had been used previously. These results are further validated by comparing them with historical MDLs (based on pooled yearly standard deviations from previous years).

NTN Site Operator Training - The CAL is now accepting registration for operators to attend the 2006 NTN Site Operations Training Course on May 23-25, 2006.  For details and registration information check the CAL web site  http://nadp.sws.uiuc.edu/cal/Training’06.html or contact Pam Bedient, pbedient@sws.uiuc.edu, 217-244-0868.
2007 NTN CALendars – The CAL wants pictures and write-ups about your site for the 2007 CALendar.  We need submissions from all sites, but the CALendar will feature coastal sites this year.  Since the fall meeting will be on the shores of the Chesapeake Bay, we are especially looking for a good picture from that area for the cover.  Contact Pam Bedient, pbedient@sws.uiuc.edu, 217-244-0868, ASAP for details or submissions.

2006 Bar Code Labels - In December, all site operators were sent a set of new 2006 bar code labels for use on the Field Observer Report Form (FORF). Please discard your old 2005 bar code labels. Use two identical labels per sample submitted from the 2006 set.  Place one label on the Site Name (Block 1) section of the FORF and the identical label on the outside of the bottle bag.  Use the labels in ascending numerical order for each sample you submit.  If a week is missed, continue to go in order.  If there would happen to be two samples in one week, use two sets of labels.  It is not important that the numeric order of the labels match the chronological order of the week of the year, only that two identical labels are used per sample submitted. Call CAL at 800-952-7353 if you have any questions.

CAL 2006 Training Course - There are just a couple of openings left for the 2006 NTN Site Operations Training Course in Champaign, IL at the Illinois State Water Survey on May 23-25, 2006.  For details and registration information check the CAL web site http://nadp.sws.uiuc.edu/cal/Training'06.html or contact Pam Bedient at pbedient@sws.uiuc.edu, 217-244-0868.

2007 NTN CALendars – The CAL wants pictures and write-ups about your site for the 2007 CALendar.  We need submissions from all sites, but the CALendar will feature coastal sites and the Chesapeake Bay area this year.  Contact Pam Bedient, pbedient@sws.uiuc.edu, 217-244-0868, ASAP for details or submissions.
