2009 Calendar:
Enclosed is a copy of the 2009 NADP
Calendar. We have redesigned the calendar into a “field log” format to
maintain a record of field site operations. Each monthly page includes
monthly maintenance checklists for the three NADP networks (NTN, AIRMoN &
MDN), and an area to record daily site operations notes. NADP equipment
information is included as follows:
-
Retrieving Electronic Raingage Data
-
Collector Parts: MDN and NTN/AIRMoN
-
Collector Motorbox and Clutch Arm
-
Belfort Raingage Parts
-
Electronic Raingage Wiring Diagrams
-
Electronic Raingage Requirements
We would appreciate your
comments and feedback about the new calendar format. Please contact us at
ntn@isws.illinois.edu or call 1-800-952-7353. |

Corrections to September Report for T and
D samples – Please note that the
September preliminary data reports you received may have contained errors.
Certain T and D type samples incorrectly showed conductivity and pH results
of -10.0 and 10.00, respectively, where these values should be indicated as
“n/a.” These errors were a result of recent updates in the CAL’s database
system; however, they will not affect final data posted on the NADP web
site. We thank the site operators and supervisors that brought this error to
our attention. Please contact us if you have any questions. |

Here are a couple of things to remember before winter sets in: |
|
 |
Winterization Follow-Up –
Please return the blue raingage winterization questionnaire to the CAL as
soon as you have completed the procedure. Be sure to mark Block 4.4 of your
FORF as YES for all samples collected while the raingage is winterized. If
you have a precipitation type “S” (snow), “M” (mixed), or “U” (unknown) and
your raingage is not winterized, the precipitation record for that sample
will be invalidated. Sites with E-gages have a separate insert with this
month’s mailing, and should follow the updated winterization procedures.

|
Ambient Sensor Heater Checks –
The sensor must melt snow or frozen precipitation to form water droplets on
the sensor plate, which then opens the collector to expose the wet bucket.
Perform the following test to ensure that your sensor heater is working:
After the collector has been closed for several minutes, sprinkle a few
flakes of snow from your glove tips directly onto the sensor plate. It
should melt in seconds and cause the motor unit to start running. If the
snow doesn’t melt, the ambient sensor heater is out, and the sensor will
have to be replaced. If you need a new part, call Matt at 1-800-952-7353 or
e-mail at
