2.3.1 Regional Requirements

The RAINGAGE and COLLECTOR should be located in an area that typifies a region and minimizes the impact of local or area sources. However, if a region is characterized by a certain type of agricultural land use or industrialization, the COLLECTOR should be located to provide representation of such extensive deposition sources.

HOWEVER
"industrial operations and urban population areas.....should be at least 10 kM from the collector. If located in general upwind direction.....20kM. For larger population centers (>75,000) the COLLECTOR should be no closer than 20kM.....doubled to 40kM, if the population is upwind. Beyond 50kM..sources are assumed to blend in with the typical characteristic of the region."


SITING CRITERIA FOR URBAN-INFLUENCED WET DEPOSITION COLLECTION SITES

USEPA-EMSL, 1986

"The general objective of an urban or urban-influenced site is to obtain precipitation data that is representative of the urban area and from that data to identify both short and long term temporal and spatial variations in the chemical nature of precipitation and the relationship to sources in the urban area."

Distance to "nearest major industrial source, such as coal or oil burning power plant or foundry should be at least 3.2 kM."
