NADP is an internationally recognized cooperative program that provides long-term, high-quality precipitation chemistry measurements in order to evaluate temporal and spatial trends in wet deposition. Three networks make up the NADP: two that measure acids, nutrients, and base cations in precipitation: NTN (National Trends Network, weekly samples) and AIRMoN (Atmospheric Integrated Research Monitoring Network, daily samples), and one that measures mercury in precipitation, MDN (Mercury Deposition Network). Data from NADP and CASTNet (Clean Air Status and Trends Network) support research on pollutant source/receptor relationships, the potential for deposition effects on terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, and biogeochemical cycling of pollutants. NADP's mission also includes outreach to the general public.
About the Meeting: The meeting is intended for scientists, policy-makers, regional managers and students interested in air quality, atmospheric deposition and its effects on natural and cultural resources. NADP subcommittee meetings, open to all, convene October 14. The Scientific Symposium will be on Wednesday and Thursday, October 15-16. This will include a poster session and reception on Wednesday evening. An optional research/educational field trip is planned for Friday, October 17, to Crave Dairy and Pleasant Prairie Power Plant.
Costs: The required registration fee is $175.00 per person. Your registration form and method of payment should be faxed or mailed to Kathy Douglas, Fax: 217-333-0249; Illinois State Water Survey, 2204 Griffith Dr., Champaign, IL 61820. Fees cover facilities, morning pastries and fruit, and breaks with refreshments. The meeting registration also covers a poster session/reception on Wednesday evening. The fee for the optional Friday field trip to Crave Brothers Dairy and the Pleasant Prairie Power Plant is $40.00, and includes transportation and a box lunch.
Abstracts for oral and poster presentations are invited on all aspects of atmospheric deposition research and policy, and especially on the following topics:
- Deposition monitoring and research needs for agriculture in the next decade
- Deposition/Climate interactions
- New monitoring initiatives: Atmospheric mercury, sentinel pathogens, ammonia by passive samplers and critical loads
- Novel field sensors for precipitation chemistry, dry deposition and ecological response monitoring
- Precipitation chemistry: New analysis and trends
Abstract Submission: Please e-mail abstracts (400 word-one page limit). Include authors, affiliation, phone number, mail and e-mail addresses, and oral or poster preference to Kathy Douglas at Kathy@sws.uiuc.edu. Due: Friday, July 25, 2008.
Additional Information: See NADP website (http://nadp.sws.uiuc.edu/).
